2026-27 Mentorship Program Brown Bag Information Session Summary

The Mentorship Program Committee hosted several Brown Bag events in January 2026 for current AMP members to learn about the 2026-27 Mentorship Program cycle. Information from the events are posted below for reference.

About the Program

  • AMP's Mentorship Program pairs experienced UCSF managers and leaders across the organization with up-and-coming staff members. 
  • The program provides a framework for staff members to cultivate contacts, build networks, and enhance their professional growth.
  • Mentees find peer support and enhance effectiveness as they plot their
    personal growth and career paths at UCSF.

Eligibility

  • Current AMP active membership
  • Submit application during application period (due Feb 28)

  • Professional and Support Staff (PSS) Career Track
  • Employed at UC for at least one year at the time of application due date
  • Permanent career position at 50% effort or more

What to expect if selected as a mentee

  • Support and encouragement for professional development
  • Learn about organizational cultures at UCSF
  • Expand understanding of how to get things done effectively and efficiently
  • Enhance skills and experience in current and future roles
  • Augment network of contacts and information channels
  • Gain an overview of the 'big picture' at UCSF
  • Matching process includes 5-8 informational interviews with potential mentors, initiated by mentees
  • Commitment of 3 hours per month for meetings
  • Required to attend 75% of mentee meetings in person or virtually

Successful Applicants and Recommendations

Successful applicants:

  • Demonstrated history of being a self-starter
  • Driver's seat of their own professional development
  • Realistic expectations of the mentorship experience
  • Commitment to UCSF as an employer
  • Resourcefulness, creativity, and curiosity
  • Commitment to self-development

Recommendations:

  • Applications due February 28th at 5pm - Start application early
  • Highly encourage applicants to review questions outside of the survey
  • Reach out to committee members with questions
  • Use the opportunity for feedback on draft application
    • Have someone review your draft for feedback
    • Mentorship committee available to review drafts
  • Avoid single sentence answers
  • Use different professional examples
  • Well-written, concise, and well-organized paragraphs
