About Our Speaker

Kate Shumate, MPA, CCRP is the Chief of Staff and Associate Director of Administration at UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (HDFCCC) and responsible for the administration of all activities in the Cancer Center, including strategic planning, organizational development and planning, financial and programmatic management of the CCSG and associated programs, communications, marketing, and emerging programs and initiatives.  

Ms. Shumate has been at UCSF for 18 years, and in this role since 2011. Prior to working in the HDFCCC, Shumate held positions focused on research administration in the Division of Hematology and Oncology. Other previous experience includes administrative and project management positions at UC Berkeley and the University of San Francisco.

Shumate has served on multiple committees, including the Cancer Center Administrators Forum (CCAF) Executive Committee; the UCSF Chancellor’s Committee on LGBTQ+ Issues, for which she served as staff chair; and the UCSF Alliance Health Project Community AdvisoryBoard, which she chaired for over 10 years.

Shumate earned a bachelor of science degree in biology and holds a master’s degree in public administration with an emphasis in health services administration, both from the University of San Francisco. She has held CCRP certification from the Society of Clinical Research Associates since 2009.
