Christy Boscardin and Karen Hauer will discuss the AI strategy in medical education, including how AI is transforming how medical students and residents are learning and developing clinical expertise, and how AI contributes to precision education (individualized, feedback rich learning and assessment).
About Our Speakers
Christy Boscardin, Ph.D., is a professor in the Department of Medicine and Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care and the Director of Artificial Intelligence and Student Assessment in the School of Medicine. Dr. Boscardin is also the Director of the Medical Education Scholarship for the Department of Anesthesia. Her research interests include medical education with a focus on assessment, artificial intelligence, data science, implementation science, and access to high quality health care. Dr. Boscardin received her BA from UC Berkeley, her MA from Stanford University, and a PhD in research methodology with an emphasis on applied statistics and advanced quantitative methods from UCLA. She is currently the statistical editor for Perspectives on Medical Education, and on the editorial board for Teaching and Learning in Medicine.
Karen Hauer, MD, PhD., is Vice Dean for Education and Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She is an active researcher in medical education and a research mentor for fellows, residents and students, with a focus on competency-based medical education, learner assessment, coaching and remediation. In 2015, she completed a PhD in Medical Education through a joint program with UCSF and the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. She earned her undergraduate degree at Stanford University, and completed medical school and internal medicine residency and chief residency at UCSF. She is a practicing general internist in primary care.
